As I’ve mentioned in a previous blog, we’re truly blessed with a number of top-of-the-line restaurants in Niagara-on-the-Lake. So it’s no surprise that we attract (and train) some of Canada’s best chefs. But did you know that some offer wonderful cooking classes? So why not learn from the best right here in Niagara-on-the-Lake?
Cook with Chef Frank Dodd at Trius Winery at Hillebrand
Here is an opportunity to learn tips and tricks from a Gold Medal Plates winning chef, Frank Dodd, who is willing to share some of his kitchen secrets with you in a series of interactive one-hour cooking classes. Then following class, you’ll enjoy a fabulous lunch! Two opportunities to do just that have come up in June:
On Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m., celebrate the best of summer with Chef Dodd with this not-to-be-missed class dedicated to fresh summer salads drizzled with vinaigrettes that are made from scratch. Then, on Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m., join Chef Dodd to learn how to prepare the world’s best burger, topped with his famous Icewine onion jam. Space is limited so call 1-800-582-8412, ext. 2 now to book your space.
Strewn Winery Wine Country Cooking School
Based on my own personal experience, it doesn’t get much better than this cooking school located within Strewn Winery in the heart of Canada’s wine country. Using the abundance of fresh products grown in the region, the cooking class instructors showcase them in recipes and menus that reflect the seasons. Every weekend from January through November, join a hands-on cooking class designed to tempt your palate and increase your culinary knowledge and appreciation of the relationship between food and wine. Better yet, invite your friends join you for a merry experience in the culinary arts. Call 905-468-8304 to book your space.
Serious chef training at the Niagara Culinary Institute
Planning to make a career of it? Check out the Niagara College in Niagara-on-the-Lake where from melt-in-your-mouth pastries to succulent, sensational entrees, all things delectable are yours to create as a chef. Perhaps you want to sample what all the fuss is about first. Then, look no further than the Benchmark Restaurant at the Niagara Culinary Institute for lunch (Tuesday to Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) or dinner (Wednesday to Saturday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.). And every Saturday evening, students and chefs prepare a special Four Course Table d’Hote Menu for only $45 per person plus taxes and gratuities. Each course can be paired with Niagara College wine for an additional $15 per person plus taxes and gratuities. Make your reservation by calling 905-641-2252, ext. 4619.
